Hello! This is my first Blog entry on this here website of mine :)
Right now I'm two days away from finishing my Associates in Computer Animation at the LAFS and two weeks from moving into my new dorm at LCAD.
I'm really excited about the move, been packing stuff for a month now! I even started emailing (and later texting) some of my new roommates, but so far there's not a lot of common ground, but I'm sure we'll all get along just fine. And if not, there's always noise canceling headphones.
I think I'm going to use my two free weeks to finish my animation project, TS ' UNU ' UN, which is based off a Mayan legend about the creation of the hummingbird.
The legend says that after the world was finished, the gods set off to create all the animals on earth, and gave each a purpose and a task. Once they were done, the gods set off to rest, but one still looked down on earth and pondered.
He called out to the other gods and told them "Wait! We can't rest yet! We have forgotten to make an animal to be in charge of thoughts".
The other gods looked at each other and complained. "What do you expect us to do?" Said the gods, "We've run out of clay and corn to sculpt the animals out of. Is there anything left on the bag?"
And so the god checked the bag and found only a small jade stone hidden at the bottom. Upon this stone the gods breathed the breath of life, transforming it into a small bird with gleaming plumage. They sent it down to earth and gave it the task of caring for thoughts, and that is how the hummingbird was created.
I originally wanted to animate the whole thing, but now I've settled for having a really neat looking Animatic in Storyboard Pro (from Toon Boom Studios). To be honest, I'm running a little late on the whole thing, but once I finish off all the sketches, coloring should be a piece of cake.
If you're interested in checking it out, I have a gallery for it here on the website, and I'll be sure to add the finished animatic once I'm all done!
Looking forward to my new life at Laguna!
